National junior training clinic weekend

A bocce focused weekend packed with fun, education, drills and a mini throwing challenge was held on April 23 – 24 at the Liverpool Catholic Club free of charge for junior participants.

Designed for all playing levels from beginners to advanced, juniors from all States were invited to come along and learn from the Australian national coaching team to improve their game and the technical aspects of Bocce.

Led by national coach Stefano Chiandotto and national junior co-ordinator Linda Chiandotto, together with Queensland coaches Kerrie Reitano and Enzo Tomasi, and ACT/NSW coach David Pevere, they implemented a successful training program. The program included physical practice, a theory and etiquette session, and was finished off with a fun quiz (via the online platform Kahoot) that allowed all players, parents, coaches and guests to participate and test their knowledge.

Mr Chiandotto said: “The training clinic was a great weekend and really allowed the participants to focus on their individual playing styles and ask questions about their game technique. It was also perfectly timed ahead of the Australian Junior Championships scheduled for May. It is great to see the investment in our junior players and the growth and improvement on last year is evident, and some new players are showing great potential.”

Some of the feedback shared from the juniors who participated was that they enjoyed learning from different coaches, it was a lot of fun, and most of all they loved seeing their friends from interstate and making new ones.

This event was a Bocce Australia initiative, supported by Sport Australia in collaboration with NSW Bocce and proudly sponsored by the Liverpool Catholic Club. We thank all the coaches and organisers who dedicated their time to this event in particular, volunteers Daniel and Nicole Samsa, Sandra and David Samsa, Daniel Pevere, Carl Pavia, Remo DiGiovanni, Ennio Alfonsi and Frank ‘Lucky’ Legato.

Juniors are already expressing their interest in attending the next national training clinic which is planned for the second half of 2023 post our junior and senior national events and prior to the up-coming international and world championship events.
