VIC update: Melbourne fun and games

The Italian Australian Sporting Club in Morwell, Victoria is holding their second season of ‘Bocce & Bubbles’ after much success from the first session held earlier in the year.

Bocce & Bubbles is a 6-week social course held every Thursday designed for women to enjoy a game of bocce with their friends whilst enjoying a glass of champagne on arrival and pizzas at the end of their games. The numbers are growing each week and new friendships are being made but most of all everyone is giving feedback that the nights are fun, friendly, and welcoming to new players.

Sally Fava, Secretary of the Morwell Bocce Committee and organiser of this social event, says: “The new players are excited to have a game of bocce with their friends and it’s great to see the laughter and enjoyment on court. The volunteers who are assisting with running the event are having a great time sharing their much-loved sport with a new community of social players”.

At the end of the 6 weeks the teams participate in a friendly competition where they all receive a participation gift and celebratory drinks.

We also hosted the first of many Trivia Night at the Furlan Club in Thornbury, Melbourne. BFV hosted the event to raise funds for the junior team to attend the Junior Nationals in Brisbane, as well as raising funds to promote women in bocce and the new league coming to Victoria in the new year being an Open Age, Open Gender League.

The evening brought the broader community together for a fun-filled night of great food, laughter and trivia, with some very entertaining between rounds challenges. It was delightful to see everyone getting involved and enjoying a night out for a great cause.

Whilst we didn’t raise the target of $25,000, we certainly raised funds for the Vic Juniors National Team and will certainly be hosting further fundraising events to continue building towards the goal. Laila Favrin, BFV – Vice President, commented in her evening closing comments: “It’s not just the committee and players, it is all of you that support us and help us keep the sport alive and for that, we thank you”.
